Developing AB’s Future Leaders

Being a young finance professional is more challenging to navigate than ever before. As a Manager in Bernstein’s Boston Office, I have the pleasure of working with and assisting the best young talent in the field as they achieve their goals.

What has inspired you to stay at Bernstein for as long as you have?

Since August of 2015, I have been a proud Bernstein team member. The people and our firm’s culture, which provides constant challenges and opportunities for personal development, have kept me here. There is no doubt in my mind about that. Prior to joining Bernstein, I had worked at a couple of other firms. However, immediately after my first interview, I knew this was the place I wanted to be. The people were all incredibly smart and hardworking, which were the exact qualities I needed at the time to bring the best out of myself. I’m lucky enough now to be in our Management department where I pay that same kindness forward by motivating and bringing out the best in my employees. Bernstein’s culture, based around collaboration, innovation and the expectation that everyone will be on their A-game, has driven me to consistently grow, personally and professionally. Everything I have mentioned made me excited to start working at Bernstein and has me excited to get out of bed every day.

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

I would say my father is, and has been, the most influential person in my life. Growing up middle class in a very rural area of upstate New York, my dad exemplified so many values that lead to success in all aspects of life. Yet, accountability and hard work are the ones I remember most. As the owner of his own business for 30 years, my dad showed up every single day and worked hard. While it’s difficult to imagine, there were no days off. Also, if you slacked off and did something wrong, it was on you. Owning mistakes was critical to my dad developing a solid reputation. As his own boss, he was accountable for every single slice of success, which takes a certain type of person to capitalize on. I’ve taken those two lessons and made them a major part of everything I do. Also, perhaps as a reward for his grit, I couldn’t be happier to say that dad recently retired and gets a lot of alone time now!

What passions do you pursue outside of work?

My main passions and hobbies outside of the office lie in sports, my dog Lily, and quality time with my fiancé Karen and friends. I’m a former college athlete and a huge sports fan, mostly within the college basketball realm. Syracuse University men’s basketball, the English Premier League’s Tottenham Hotspur and the NFL Carolina Panthers are some of my favorite teams to follow. My days of playing team sports and in men’s leagues are now behind me so I’ve taken up running recently and even ran a half marathon. I also enjoy spending time with my two-year-old golden retriever Lily, whether it be long walks or playing in the park. Lastly, I enjoy dining out with my fiancé Karen at our favorite restaurant Davio’s, an Italian restaurant in Boston’s Seaport District, or having a few pints at Mr. Dooley’s with friends.
