Capstone Client Experience

I’ve had the good fortune of being CEO of a healthcare manufacturing firm, taking a company public, acquiring my own small business and working as an investment banker. I bring enormous life experience and an outsider’s perspective to the table.

What inspired you to join Bernstein?

Initially, I didn’t think wealth management or Bernstein was for me. However, I’ve since realized I was wrong. In fact, I’ve come to call my wealth advisory practice at Bernstein my “capstone experience,” as I advise clients with the same vigor with which I approached running my own businesses. My unique background as an entrepreneur, manufacturing business owner, investment banker and venture capitalist combines two-plus decades of navigating issues similar to the ones my private clients face. I can empathize with what they’re going through, so I use a holistic approach to create optionality so they can reach their financial and life goals. As I come from outside of the industry, I’ve found Bernstein’s integrated approach to wealth management truly refreshing in the best way possible. Frankly, now that I’ve worked here for a while, I’ve realized the only way to manage money for clients is the Bernstein way: with a fiduciary, client-first approach.

How have your values and personal background uniquely positioned you to work with your clients?

I’m a small-town Ohio guy who had the good fortune of moving to Chicago in the late ’90s to pursue a career in mergers & acquisitions and investment banking. The unique perspective that I bring to my clients comes from growing up in a small community in a family of educators and focusing on the Chicago entrepreneurial landscape for 20 years. While there are a plethora of perfectly fine financial advisors to choose from, my unique background as a CEO, business owner and mergers & acquisitions professional differentiates me, like the small-town values I incorporate into my work. As a former entrepreneur, I recognize and empathize with the frustrations and fears many of my clients face. I love helping my clients through their most complex problems, and the army of talented wealth strategists, senior investment professionals and private client associates at Bernstein make my job easy. No matter what the pursuit or client challenge of the day may be, we’ve got it covered.

What passions do you pursue outside of work?

My wife and I love to travel with our eight-year-old son and eleven-year-old daughter. After a recent visit to Zion National Park, visiting as many national parks as possible is definitely on our family’s bucket list! When I’m not with my family, I volunteer on a number of local boards and nonprofits. I enjoy giving back to the communities where I work and live, and view it as an integral part of my wealth advisory practice. Outside of helping clients, volunteering or spending time with family, you can probably find me with a racket in my hand playing tennis or, if it’s cold outside, platform tennis. And if you don’t know about this unique sport, please feel free to ask me! I will use tennis anytime as a conversation starter.
