What inspired you to join Bernstein?
I was born and raised around my family business. I understand the unique challenges business owners and their families face. I also appreciate the amount of time and energy it takes to find success and the sacrifices required to do so. After obtaining J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from the University of South Dakota, I immediately began my career in the financial services industry. When I was searching for an organization that I could call home for the long-term, Bernstein’s world class research and singular focus towards wealth management piqued my curiosity. Bernstein was also looking for a partner to help grow the Omaha market and surrounding areas. This was the opportunity and challenge I had been searching for. Bernstein’s team approach and strong corporate values ensure we are always sitting on the same side of the table, which allows us to provide better outcomes for our clients.
What is the most fulfilling aspect of being an advisor to your clients?
Having grown up in a family business, I understand the unique challenges that can result from owning and operating a business. I truly enjoy learning about my clients on a personal level so I can understand what matters most to them and the issues keeping them up at night. Whether it’s a complex estate planning issue, pre-transaction planning in anticipation for the sale of a business, or navigating family dynamics, I strive each day to provide the best outcomes for my clients. It is extremely rewarding and humbling to be their trusted advisor and resource. At Bernstein, we understand the complexity that can result from having wealth. What passions do you pursue outside of work?
My wife Amanda and I are blessed to have three beautiful daughters, as well as a Bernedoodle named Douglas. We live just west of Omaha in the town of Valley, Nebraska, on Flatwater Lake. I enjoy being part of a community and truly believe the more you give back and serve, the more fulfilled in life you will be. I have been fortunate to be involved throughout my career with great organizations including the American Red Cross, the Society of Financial Service Professionals, the Rotary, and Leadership South Dakota. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time at the lake fishing, swimming, and having a drink with friends. We also try to get up to Okoboji, Iowa, and our cabin in the Black Hills of South Dakota as often as we can to spend time with family as well as to golf, snowmobile and enjoy the outdoors.
