What inspired you to join Bernstein?
I have never been satisfied with a superficial advisor-client relationship. As a Bernstein advisor, I’m equipped with the opportunity to make my role much more than ‘just another professional’ in someone’s life. At Bernstein, I’m empowered to reach the depths of what people care about at a level that no others are willing to go to. This might be understanding how my clients talk with their children about money, working through the next stage in life after a business sale, or helping them understand how they can use their wealth to create a philanthropic legacy for generations to come. Many times, my clients don’t even know how to answer these questions, simply because they have never been asked. I’m at Bernstein because we have teams that allow our clients to think beyond just the financials and answer these questions to locate what’s truly important. In this way, Bernstein is the perfect fit, because it allows me to make deep connections with my clients that are essential to a successful relationship.
What is the most fulfilling aspect of being an advisor to your clients?
It’s wonderful to experience people set priorities, take consistent action, and watch their sacrifices pay off. As an advisor, I’m privy to the most endearing qualities of human beings who are truly working to improve the lives of themselves, their loved ones, and their communities. I help them seek ways to do an even better job. What clients experience in working with me is the dedication from someone who shares similar characteristics and understands that no two people are the same. My ability to truly listen and focus on people’s core values is what allows me to properly structure a plan that makes sense for them specifically. Having the chance to play a part in the execution of those values and to see the fulfillment that it brings my clients is why I do what I do. The old saying, “life is good when you are happy, but much better when people are happy because of you” rings true each and every day.
What passions do you pursue outside of work?
I am a person who craves a physical challenge. My fiancée and her family have always enjoyed hiking, and from our first outing, I was hooked. I love everything about hiking mountains: analyzing maps to find the best routes, coming up with contingency plans in the case of bad weather, and packing my bag with possible necessities like headlamps, shoe spikes, and a family-sized bag of Skittles! I even love the constant struggle of the climb. This passion has taken me all over the country in pursuit of the toughest trails, and most recently in my quest to hike all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000-foot peaks. Pulling up to the base of a mountain with nothing but the items in my pack and a game plan to execute provides me with those energizing pre-game jitters I used to feel as a college athlete.
