Miles Honens

Prepared for the Moments That Matter

I help business owners, executives and multigenerational families in the US and abroad make confident decisions about their wealth, especially during times of change.

What drew you to Bernstein?

Over my career, I’ve advised clients at a large financial planning firm, consulted with business owners and family offices on advanced wealth strategies, and run acquisitions and operations at a real estate investment firm. What I learned in each role pointed to the same conclusion: The families I work with deserve advice backed by real research, a deep bench of specialists and a firm that puts their interests first. Bernstein offers all three. Because I have the firm’s research and its Wealth Strategies team behind me, my recommendations rest on analysis, not opinion.

What is the most fulfilling aspect of your role?

Being trusted with the decisions that matter most to a family. Many of my clients have spent decades building a business, and a sale or succession plan can be the most important financial moment of their lives. What I value is helping them think through those choices, working alongside their attorneys and accountants, and guiding them through to the other side with a clear plan. I also enjoy the teaching side of the work. Some clients know the finance world well, while others are curious to learn more. Either way, the best relationships are built when ideas flow openly from both sides of the table.

What experience has shaped how you work with clients?

Playing Division I rugby at UC Berkeley. Our teams won five national championships during my time there, and none of them resulted from talent alone. They were achieved through preparation, accountability to the people around you, and staying composed when the pressure is highest. I bring that same mindset to my clients. Markets and life will both test you, so I focus on preparing well ahead of time. That way, when the big moments come, my clients can act with confidence.
