As an Advisor I Am Seasoned, yet Fresh

After advising for a quarter century, one would think I had seen it all. Fortunately, the complexities of wealth constantly change, which is exhilarating, as does our firm. We’re always innovating to meet the ever-evolving needs of clients.

What has inspired you to stay at Bernstein for as long as you have?

As I embark on my 27th year at Bernstein, I’m often asked why I have decided to spend my entire career at the same firm. Although I could point to a number of reasons, I have chosen to stay because of the people and culture, which is perpetuated by our collective passion for helping clients. By working together and adopting the same ideology, my colleagues and I continued to create the Bernstein culture every day, which is about putting clients first. Even after almost three decades at Bernstein, I am continually inspired by the intellectual curiosity, unassailable integrity and unwavering dedication of my colleagues. Being entrusted with managing a family’s entire net worth comes with a tremendous amount of responsibility. Since joining the firm, I’ve always had peace of mind that I can do my job well because of the army of incredibly bright and ethical professionals who are my teammates. Together, my colleagues and I help our clients uncover purpose in their wealth.

What passions do you pursue outside of work?

I grew up in a large family in South Florida. My parents enrolled my five siblings and me in all types of sports to keep us active and physically fit. When we were not at practice or a game, my family and I were at the beach. An active, healthy and connected to the great outdoors type of lifestyle continues to be a major source of happiness for me. As often as I can, I visit the ocean because it reminds me of the happy memories from my upbringing. When I am at the ocean, I can either be found surfing or taking a long, open-water swim in preparation for one of my upcoming triathlons, which is another passion of mine.

What is the most fulfilling aspect of being an advisor to your clients?

I thrive on unraveling the complexities my clients face due to their wealth. In addition, I enjoy applying my experience and Bernstein’s vast research capabilities to each unique situation to provide my clients with peace of mind. A good day, for example, is being able to use Bernstein’s analytical tools to help an entrepreneur untangle the multiple deal structures she is evaluating when selling her business. As an advisor, I want to help someone like her feel calm and confident about the decisions she is making. That is one example of my desire to provide peace of mind. I also feel equally as gratified when counseling a multi-generational family through implementing a wealth transfer strategy in a way that brings meaning to their money. Those are the types of clients and situations that keep me at Bernstein, in the financial advising game, and happy while doing my work. Again, I am seasoned, yet fresh, because I’m always learning.
