More Than Just an Advisor to Families and Foundations

Everyone has a financial story with a problem that’s waiting to be solved. My passion as a wealth advisor is to find that problem and bring solutions to the table.

What inspired you to join Bernstein?

Delivering a positive financial experience requires a high service ethic, consistent performance, and a commitment to placing clients first. Bernstein leverages its world-class research, state-of-the-art suite of investment services, and status as a fiduciary to help clients achieve their goals. Bernstein’s emphasis on planning and delivering advice free of conflicts is among the strongest in the industry. I had prior experience working at other large financial firms as a research analyst. But when I made the transition to money management over a decade ago, I knew Bernstein was the only choice that could offer the style of money management I wanted to bring to clients. We are a large firm in scale and resources with a dedication to personal feel.

What’s the best way for people to put their wealth in perspective?

Money is a difficult subject for all but a few people. And for a topic that is so important, it amazes me how little formal education there is on the topic. Clients are often reluctant to talk about their financial situation even with their own families. As an outside advisor looking in, my role is to be their primary sounding board and counselor. I believe information is power and that power should enable all clients (individuals, families, estates, trusts, and foundations), to make better decisions. As an advisor, the most important role I play is to shed light where there is darkness and educate our clients not only on markets, risk, and planning, but also to help them gain a deeper understanding of their own goals such as philanthropy, providing money for their children, embarking on a new venture or sustaining income.

What passions do you pursue outside of work?

Outside of work, I serve on the boards of four not-for-profits including the Estée Lauder Foundation, the World Monuments Fund, Alliance Française, and the New York Pops Orchestra.  All help to make a difference in communities that are important to me. The  Estée Lauder Foundation grants funds to improve the lives of some of the world’s most fragile citizens, including impoverished women in need of education and others living with HIV/AIDS. The World Monuments Fund offers financial support to historic sites ravaged by war, climate change, or other degradations. The Alliance Française is devoted to French language and cultural education, which was an important part of my own education. And the New York Pops Orchestra entertains at Carnegie Hall but also raises much-needed funds to bring music education to underserved New York City schools.

My other passion is athletics. Nothing clears the mind like aerobic activity. My sport of choice is running and triathlons and I have been fortunate to complete two Half Ironman events as well as many shorter races.
