I Uncover Opportunities That Are Often Overlooked

California attracts entrepreneurs who create and scale the most innovative companies in the world. But it’s also among the highest tax jurisdictions in the US. My clients benefit from my expertise in wealth transfer and tax deferral strategies.

Tell me about the types of clients you work with.

I have built my practice working with entrepreneurs, owners of privately held businesses, and executives at publicly traded companies. Many of my clients are passionate and driven but don’t have the capacity to evaluate advanced planning options. One of the most satisfying aspects of my relationship with clients is identifying opportunities that are often overlooked but can have a meaningful impact on wealth creation and legacy.

I engage with company founders at every phase, from the company’s initial formation to raising growth capital and, ultimately, through an exit. My clients benefit from my diverse network of personal and professional contacts that I leverage to deliver ideas, connections, and resources.

What has inspired you to stay at Bernstein for as long as you have?

When I joined Bernstein in 2001, I never imagined I would be here decades later. Like many of the principals at Bernstein, I had a successful career prior to joining the firm. Bernstein provided an opportunity to work with a truly exceptional team that’s entirely focused on delivering the best outcome for clients. We have all of the same resources as the most sophisticated global firms but still maintain the service level of a boutique.

From the start, I realized the best part of my role as an Advisor is developing enduring relationships with clients. This often extends to their children, incorporating financial stewardship and charitable planning across generations.

What passions do you pursue outside of work?

Growing up, I developed a passion for the outdoors and environmental conservation. For many years, I have served on the Board of Directors of WildAid, a San Francisco–based non-profit that focuses on reducing the global demand for illegal wildlife products and marine protection.

I am also an avid “ecotourist.” I have been fortunate to spend time in some of the most unique ecosystems in the world including South Africa, the Amazon, and the Great Barrier Reef. My practice reflects my values with an increasing emphasis on environmental and impact investing.

Today, my wife and I spend most of our energy raising our three boys in Marin, California.
