What inspired you to join Bernstein?
Prior to joining Bernstein, I spent 18 years in international equity research and portfolio management, always focused on institutional clients. While I thrived on the excitement that far-flung markets presented, I ultimately craved the ability to work more directly with clients. When Bernstein approached me, I was intrigued. I had always considered the firm’s fundamental research the industry gold standard. Yet, I knew very little about its Private Client business. As I learned more, it became clear that the Senior Investment Strategist role would be a perfect fit; fully leveraging my capital markets expertise and allowing me to directly impact client outcomes. Today, I work with a wide range of clients and serve on our national Investment Strategy Team. I relish the combination of intellectual challenge and personal impact that comes from contributing to Bernstein’s thought leadership and ever-evolving investment platform.
What’s the best way for people to put their wealth in perspective?
I love the fact that portfolio design always begins with an in-depth conversation about the wealth-related problems our clients face. As they say, “you can’t take it with you.” So then, what is the purpose of wealth? The answer, of course, is different for each individual. I work closely with our advisors, and clients, to craft investment programs designed to serve specific priorities and goals. My expertise across asset classes and perspective on the opportunities and challenges presented by evolving financial markets are vital to the implementation phase. But, it all comes back to the way in which the individual strategies in our investment tool kit are combined. This strategic, highly creative approach is always in service of each client’s purpose, however they ultimately define it.
What passions do you pursue outside of work?
I was born in the UK and moved to the US as a child. Having also lived in Spain, Brazil and Costa Rica before settling in Miami, Florida, I consider myself a global citizen. My broad worldview and curiosity about different cultures are especially relevant in the work I do with global and multi-jurisdictional families. I am also a voracious reader and an avid traveler. When I’m not on a plane with my nose stuck in a book, I enjoy spending time with my husband, son and our energetic Australian shepherd, Arrow.
